The planning of the 21 KM follows the five themes of Reconstruction, Connection, Activation, Culture, and Illumination to transform a formerly scattered landscape into a continuous and inclusive community. Through the study of circulation and local activities, the 21 KM aims to construct a vibrant space in between the built environment and the natural landscape.
The 21 KM is composed of three types of pathways – Explorer, Stroller, and Runner – with each promoting a distinct lifestyle within the diverse urban environment. Perched on the side of the east bund, the intertwined pathways merge into a complete, unified waterfront delineated by the river. Five nodes were designed to bridge the disconnected landscape, creating new leisure opportunities and walking experiences for each section of the promenade.
